Training, AGM & First Game

4/15/2016

All

First Training and AGM Tomorrow Night:
The Burlington Arms in Mayfair
6.30pm Upstairs Room

A few beers, a sausage roll or two (they might not be sausage rolls, they might be more metrosek-sual (I've spelt it that way to get it through your corporate email filters) than that, like hummus-&-antelope or similar) and the AGM itself.

A substantial turnout of BLAZERS would be a magnificent start to the season. Do break it out if you have it.

Team 1 - Game 1:
Thar she blows - the 2016 LNZCC Northern Hemisphere season is upon us!! Josh Wright is managing the first team for this weekend's first game vs Hampstead CC at their ground in north London.

If it's a nice day, Hampstead is a lovely place to watch the match in the sun and have a beer so do pop along if you're in the vicinity:

Vance Thompson   110 matches
Greg Collinge 29 matches
Sam Martin 50 matches
Jonty Vavasour 21 matches
Richard Brooks 26 matches
Scott Baldwin 21 matches
Alex Tarrant 3 matches
Kieran White 1 match
Mark Epps 9 matches
Luke Vivian 23 matches
Josh Wright 36 matches

Fixtures Calendar:
Is live on the website (thanks Liam and Paul!)

I believe Sam Martin has a full team for the second game vs Wimbledon on Sunday 24th and the next two matches after that are vs Hartley Witney (contact Jarrad Bourke via the website http://www.lnzcc.org/fixtures-calendar.html ) and then HAC, which is me.

See you tomorrow night.

Regards
Gerard

Gentlemen, ladies, LNZCCOBs, members of the whakapapa
Another Kiwi doing sport stuff here in the UK:
With sponsorship from LNZCC member Doug Speedy's new water bottling company (www.opure.kiwi) NZ's number 1 ranked Men's tennis player Michael Venus is playing his second round Men's Doubles match with Croatian partner Mate (pronounced Ma-tay) Pavic at Wimbledon at 12.15 today.  Court 7.  He's then straight back out there to play his first round Mixed Doubles later this afternoon - not with Mate....
Result:
A fine match was played in Farnham last Sunday vs Wanderers.  Check the website for  a sooper-dooper match report by Andrew Alderson, sports journo at the NZ Herald on Sunday and newly-minted LNZCC club member after making his debut.  Andrew will be back on the park at Ripley on July 19th.
This Sunday vs Chenies & Latimer:
Ryan Smith
Sam Martin
Luke Vivian
Greg Collinge
Andrew Haines
Tony Penman
Liam O’Donnell
Craig Herrick
Johnny Rowe
Michael Gane

Robo’s cousin’s mate
Matches to follow: (click on the blue highlighted linky things below)
·         The flagship match vs Hagley CC at Hagley Hall is on Sunday July 12th.  Enlist via long-time skipper/MM Tony Penman or via the website
·         While you’re at it – get stuck into other games too such as Ripley – Richard Fish and Four Elms – Matt Reinholds – and of course, the match vs The Grannies on the wonderful historic Sheffield Park
Music:
It has been a  very long time since we’ve had a musical interlude (weirdly, the ‘lude’ part of that word got autocorrected to ‘course’ so I’m questioning the moral compass and turpitudes of my version of MS Office right now)
Anyways, in an effort to demonstrate that it’s no all twin-fist-pump thumpiing choons have some Dan Auerbach… https://youtu.be/1fQ8WNjrxOY
Over and out for this week...

Friday night – Summer Celebration in the Sky
Looking forward to seeing a large multitude of you on Friday night at NZ House.  Doors open at about 6.15 or so; we will be serving Monteiths and Mud House wines at unbelievably good prices along with NZ-inspired food from Escence Catering, and of course the big attraction is the Famous Meat Raffle, which will feature Frozen Chickens (of course) and a whole lot more good stuff like beef, lamb, cricket stuff, beer, wine and other such things…

BLAZERS please!  Otherwise smart casual (something slightly more dressy then redbands or jandals will suffice)

Match Result
Game of Throwings: We raised the Drawbridge at 1982 on the basis that at least people born then had a shot at remembering Queen’s unbelievable performance of Radio Gaga at Live Aid`.  Those born after 1982 skittled those born pre-1982; chasing down 138 in only 14 overs.  Much of this was due to swashbuckling opening from Andrew Haines who bludgeoned 43 runs off G.Walsh’s 3 overs.   Whither your three pet dragons when you need them?

Team for this week’s game vs Datchet:
Peter Tippen (who is about to relocate to Shanghai for 3 or so years) had selected the following team for the match vs Datchet.  Good luck all

Andy Haines (4 caps)
Michael Gane (8 caps)
Chris Nolan (1 cap)
Richard Brooks (23 caps)
Liam O’Donnell (10 caps)
Andrew Barkle (94 caps)
Greg Collinge (21 caps)
Jason Middlemiss (1 cap)
Richard Burgess (100 caps)
Scott Devine (3 caps)
Josh Wright (30 caps)

Upcoming games:
All can be seen and signed up for here – http://www.lnzcc.org/fixtures-calendar.html - the Hagley game is a very good one to get involved with if you have not played it.

Playing kit:
The delivery has arrived and we now have LNZCC playing shirts, trousers, vests and long-sleeve jumpers.  The latter are real ones of knitted wool, not some artificial thing derived from petrochemicals.  Please contact Chris for your orders.

See you soon
Gerard,

Very short update

No match this Sunday - Wiltshire Queries aren't able to get a side out so have a lie-in on Sunday.
There are further score update and match reports on the website.

LNZCC's Facebook and Twitter feeds have some terrific photos of LNZCC members at the Hamish Marshall Benefit Match - a very very good night indeed.  If you look closely, you might be able to spot our  newest not-played-yet member of the team in one of our blazers.  (Suffice to say, he fitted my blazer somewhat better than I fitted into his NZ team jacket.)

https://www.facebook.com/groups/LNZCC/

Next game is the internal Rams vs Lambs go at Cheam on June 14th.  ALL welcome - playing or not.

Cheers

Ladies and gents, LNZCCOBs, members of the whakapapa

LNZCC’s colours were prominent and much-commented on throughout the test at Lord’s, not least of which was Jonty Vavasour’s fine effort in the White and Case box which attracted the attention of Sky and the BBC.  Well done all.

Good luck to the New Zealand team for the second test at Headingley, and all the best to LNZCC members who will be there.

Quick Reminder:
Summer Celebration in the Sky – huge demand for tickets already so if you are coming and bringing your posse, please confirm names to Chris Hamilton - chris.hamilton@ubs.com – tickets are £25 which covers door and NZ canapes; cash bar for substantially-discounted NZ wine and beer; and of course The Meat Raffle which will feature Frozen Chickens amongst other very good things.

Match Result:
A win at Harefield on Sunday – well done team.

Match Reports are being written for Ibiza and the other games.  Check the website.  We’re also working on the stats for the season and a clip of the current status (in order of matches played) is attached for yourselves.

Luke Vivian off to a runs-scoring flyer and Sam Martin closing in on 100 wickets for the club.  Andrew Barkle and Phil Bartle closing on 100 games for the club.

Friends, New Zealanders, not New Zealanders, ANZAC brothers and sisters, members of the whakapapa and LNZCCOBs
 This issue:
    1.          Signing up for matches
    2.          Social Calendar – MONSTA! Hamish Marshall Benefit Year Dinner and ‘Summer                  Celebration in the Sky’ at NZ House
    3.          Match Result vs Wimbledon
    4.         Team for Hartley Wintney
    5.          Our big brothers on tour
 Signing up for games:
For the moment, while we fix a bit of back-end logic on the website, please do two things to sign up for games.  Please use the online selector tick-box widget here AND also email the match manager directly here

Social Calendar:
Event One:  Please contact Chris directly to get your tickets for the Hamish Marshall Benefit Dinner at The Grange, St Pauls on Thursday June 4th – chris.hamilton@ubs.com Tickets are £115 and there is already a large contingent of LNZCC members attending.  (Black tie or Blazer and bow tie)  There are likely to be one or two rather good cricketers from NZ there on the night in support of Hamish, who has already played for LNZCC once this season.  Get stuck in.

Event Two:  Summer Celebration in the Sky on Friday June 19th.  We are one of the very few sporting clubs able to host a function in The Penthouse of NZ House.  It is a real privilege and the event itself is a must-attend; bring your mates, wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands, flatmates, indoor netball team, work colleagues, neighbours and anyone else who is a ninja-level expert in social combat at altitude.  This is our big FUN-raising (not a typo) event of the year.

Tickets are only £25 (we have been able to hold them at this price for 5+ years) Cash bar serving NZ beer and wine at huge discounts.  PLUS the Meat Raffle is on again.  Beef.  Lamb. Frozen chickens. (NB – chickens frozen at start of night.  Unable to guarantee Arctic chickens by the end of the night.)  Other things in the raffle too – including an hour’s tennis coaching with Michael Venus, NZ’s number one male tennis player - but the chickens have a certain social cachet.   Buy ticket to gig.  Buy raffle tickets.  Win chickens.  Simples.

Match Result:
Sam Martin’s match report and the scorecards for the game vs Wimbledon are here.

Upcoming games:

New Zealand Team on Tour in England
Following the finest year in NZ cricket history, our big brothers are here in May and June.  I know many of you will be at Lords for the first test – wherever you are in the UK, get out and support the team and wear your club colours at a every opportunity.  The blazers are almost always picked up by the TV cameras especially at Lords and the Oval.  It could be a cracking summer for NZ cricket so let's support the team as much as possible.

Have a great Bank Holiday weekend!

Good morning all,

ANZAC Day:
Dawn Parade will be very busy and they’ve been forced to upgrade security – arrive early (before 4.30am) to access the inner ring of Hyde Park Corner.  Blazers please – it will make a special, memorable impact.

There is a lot of superb on-demand ANZAC programming on Maori TV -http://www.maoritelevision.com/tv/shows/anzac-2015/all-videos

Match Report:
A terrific start to the season with a 10-wicket win vs Hampstead CC, in which opening bowler Richard Brooks took out middle stump with the first ball of the season – not something I’ve ever even heard of until now.  Scorecards, PDFs and match report by Match Manager Josh Wright will are here

Match vs Wimbledon:
Skipper Sam Martin has a full side vs Wimbledon on Sun 26th:

 Sam Martin 42 caps

Peter Tippen 100 caps
Gerard Walsh 75 caps

Upcoming games:
·         Jarrad Bourke (jarrad.bourke@eu.nabgroup.com ) is in charge of the game vs Hartley Wintney on Mon May 4th. Thoroughly recommend this game, played on a lovely village green across the road from a pub called The Cricketers.
·         HAC at the Artillery Ground in City Road on May 10th is fully subscribed.
·         Ibiza Tour – we have had a withdrawal so there is one tour spot up for grabs.  Enlist directly with me  by return email please.
