Notable players

Some of the best cricketers in the world have played for or against LNZCC.  At the international level, the list includes the following New Zealanders who have played for the club:

New Zealand
Richard Hadlee, Graeme Thomson, Blair Hartland, James Marshall, Hamish Marshall, Martin Donnelly, John Reid, Tom Pritchard (fourth highest wicket-taker in NZ first class history and a fast bowler of such quality he was on the verge of selection for England), Tony MacGibbon (70 wickets in 26 tests for NZ) Bob Cunis, Trevor Franklin, Aaron Gale, Mark Richardson, Andre Adams and Matthew Bell

England (played against LNZCC)
Ian Salisbury, Ed White, Peter May (England Captain), Jim Laker (took all 10 wickets in an innings vs Australia at Old Trafford) Ken Barrington (82 tests for England and more than 31,000 first class runs), Butch White (a pace bowler who played two tests for England in 1961-62)


Graeme Pollock, regarded until recently as the best South African cricketer ever, played against LNZCC at The Oval in 1969.  More recently, Zimbabwe’s Douglas Hondo lined up against LNZCC at Harefield.

In the early 2000’s LNZCC twice played against the famous Lashing’s XI in games that featured Viv Richards, Courtney Walsh, Greg Blewett; Sherwin Campbell; Grant Flower; Stuart Carlisle, Mark Waugh, Richie Richardson and Chris Harris.

Since 1952, a significant number of first-class, provincial, county or senior club players have worn LNZCC colours, or played for teams against the club.
