Ripley CC - Sunday 17th July 2011

With Dorms stuck in New York after missing his flight, skipper Richard Fish took over the reigns. Losing the toss LNZCC were asked to bat.

The prospects were bright with an All Black and Black Cap in the team. However the weather was also black, but we managed a start at 1:00pm. However after 2 over the heavens opened and the teams scuttled off to the club house to wait for the rain to abet. There were breaks but not long enough to try and remove the covers, but the players at least had a chance to watch some of Darren Clark winning The Open.

At last the run stopped around 3:30pm and the very full covers were removed . The game was reduced to 25 over with play resuming at 4:00pm.

All the LNZCC batters realised they need to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Most got a bit of a start before succumbing to some tight Ripley bowling. However James Marshall stood out like a beacon on the score board. Some of the biggest hitting seen at Ripley for many a years was wonderful to watch. The sixes were going over the club house disturbing the people having a BBQ behind! He was dropped 3 times on his way to 93. No one other than Mr Extras made double figures

So Ripley had 138 to make off their 25 overs.

Dougal and TP opened the bowling. Dougal took a bit of time to find is length but was reward with an early wicket. TP was as tight as ever and picked up wickets with sharp catches from Richard Burgess and 1st slip and Richard Keyse diving in the gully.

Ripley were not going to give up and kept up with the run rate. Gerard Walsh picked up a couple of good wickets to keep the pressure on Ripley. Guy Simm too a nonchalant catch at mid wicket. James Marshall effected an effortless run out with a one movement pick up and throw at  pace at square leg. All class.

With overs running out Ripley kept on trying. However Richard Holden and debutant Ollie Perkins closed out the game for LNZ with 3 wickets between them. Some great fielding with no less than 6 catches and a run out meant LNZ won by 20 runs

Scoreboard Ripley LNZ 137 for 9 (25 overs) Ripley 116 All Out (24 overs) LNZ win by 21 runs

Game reduced to 25 overs with a limit of 5 overs per bowler
