Harefield - Sunday 29th May 2011
Ladies & Gents
It is with great regret I report a loss for the Harefield game on 29th May.
We struggled to get numbers required during the week leading up to the game, which is not good for this stage of the season, and not good for the reputation of the club. Therefore, the night before the game we pulled in a schoolboy son of a mate of the skippers, and borrowed a player from Harefield, 14 year old Jordy McLeod. Jordy is the son of fellow Kiwi cricketer, Richard McLeod, and proved a real talent. Both of the sub's proved admirable replacements, with good ability, and enthusiasm, and the club thanks them both for coming to our support, in our hour of need. Tom Impey (Jagga) also made his debut for the club, and looks like he will be a valuable player going forward should we manage to get more games out of him. 4 more games and a Nottman Cap is in the offing Jagga.
The pitch was a typical Harefield wicket, and as is typical of Harefield's hospitality, we appeared to have a strip that looked like it could offer everyone something, both batter, and bowler.
Tikao lost the toss, and was sent into the field on a fairly warm, breezy summers afternoon.
The miserly Penman, and Simm were given the new cherry, and we'd surely be in good hands with these two? The wickets came at 19 runs and 28 runs on the board, which is not to be scoffed at, as Harefield are a quality side, drawing their Sunday team from 4 Saturday sides, with a good mix of all. The next 2 wickets were not to come until 165 runs were on the board, and we were now chasing the game, due to a healthy partnership from the Harefield skipper and his able assistant.
Nick Connell took a couple of nice catches with the gloves, and Dougal McLachlan's 'Lance Cairns-esque' action took 3 handy wickets. Junior last-minute-import-for-the-day, James Wall showed a nice action, and chipped in with a nice wicket off his 4 overs (but reminded me he could have had 2 had another catch been held). Some typically athletic fielding from Jackson Locke also saw a run out off James' bowling. The fielding was generally good, with 7 catches held, but 2 good Harefield partnerships allowed them to get to 252 all out, with Guy Simm mopping up the tail, and taking 3 wickets in the process.
As expected, a lovely tea was prepared, and the LNZ boys took full advantage during the interval.
On to the run chase. Jacko and Nick Connell got us off to a good start as we accumulated 35 runs, before the first wicket fell. With a start being hard to come by, we were always behind the 8 ball, with notable contributions from Jacko, Penman, Impey & McLachlan.
Jacko's 52 runs & prowess in the field scored him a £20 GBK voucher, and Dougal's 3 wickets and 23 runs scored him a £10 GBK voucher, many thanks to GBK for their ongoing support.
LNZ all out for 186, and a loss reported.
Many thanks to all of the players involved, also to Pete' & Marty, and for the guys support in attempting to get a team out from those involved.
