Hampshire Hogs - Sunday 6th June 2010
A great day out was had in Hampshire by the LNZCC boys, the cricket was good and the lunch even better. Hampshire agreed to bat first and LNZCC in typical fashion agreed to chase any total set.
Starting 30 minutes later as the Mike Oliver, playing his last game, was pulled over by the police and had to do some smooth talking to avoid been at Heathrow a few days early than anticipated.
Finally underway LNZCC made a strong start and had the home side 89 for 5. After a long lunch and maybe one pint too many the local side but together a strong partnership and made it too 254 before declaring. The fielding was above average for LNZCC on what was a very hot day.
LNZCC made a very positive start to the run chase, with Mike Oliver scoring the 15 runs he needed to leave the club with an average of 50. The total was looking some way off at until Scott Baldwin came together with young Will Philips and put together a match winning partnership. Will took away the player of the day prize which was well deserved.
Thanks to Marty for umpiring and for Scott helping me get a team out.
Come on the All whites! Cheers Burge
