Goodwood - Sunday 15th August 2010

For a change the weather was kind to us and a the prospect of a good day. However the pitch was looking a bit wet. Much to some players dismay, Richard Fish won the toss and choose to bat, though later admitted this was more due to the state of his head and the prospect of keeping for 55+ overs.

Nick Connell and Matt Fanning opened the batting. Nick had been in great form all season but was undone early on the slow track. Matt was joined by Dave Sisam. and the pair showed how to play on this track. Brutal in attach and strong on defence.. Anything too full or short was dispatched. Dave got to a very well complied 50 and then was out so we were 131-2 at lunch.

After lunch Matt continued on. There were brief cameos from Dave Cruickshank, Dorms and Barks before Matt was joined by Richard Keyse. Matt finally got to the magical milestone, 100, which was surprisingly after so many years,  his first for LNZ. Clearly the moment got to him and was out soon after for a great 100 one difficult pitch

Richard Keyse again showed why he loves the ground, pepper the boundary, and Mike Stead, making an appearance after 10 years since his last game for the club, showed he had not lost none of his skill. LNZ declared on 259 leaving Goodwood about 60 overs to get 260 something they are more than capable of.

Dave Sisam and Tony Penman opened the bowling and bowled with good control and early success and we had Goodwood 41-3. This early set back did not stop them attacking and they kept the scoreboard ticking over, but with regular wickets falling. Mike Byers and Mike Stead both making comebacks bowled some steady over in the middle without success

However at the other end spinners, Andrew Barkle, Ben Dormer and Matt Fanning all had success as Goodwood continued to chase the total.

The final 20 started and Goodwood were still in the hunt but losing regular wickets. Will Gannon for Goodwood was making a game of it with some bold hitting but was undone by a great catch from Dave Cruickshank brought about his downfall. Veteran Pete Wilmer did not hold us up like he did the year before, and another great catch from Dave in the deed ended  Goodwood's inning 14 short of our total.

A great game as always. Many thanks to all the LNZCC supports who made their way down from London, especially a very new baby Scarlet Stead, and Matty for his always very fair umpiring. A big thanks to Goodwood for hosting us. The 3 course lunch, tea and pizzas were as always excellent and very much appreciated.

Scoreboard LNZCC 259 for 7 declared after 57 overs  Goodwood 245 all out after 54.2 overs LNZCC win by 14 runs

LNZCC captain Richard Fish won the toss and elected to bat in this declaration match which commenced at 11.30 Goodwood time (12noon BST). Twenty overs from 6pm.
