Langley - Sunday 31st July 2005
LNZCC win in style
LNZCC gained suitable retribution for last year’s heavy defeat with a comprehensively 9 wicket win over Langley last Sunday. In 2004 Langley scored 340 in their allotted 40 overs. But your skipper, having called correctly, had no hesitation in inserting them on a wicket made for the top class attack at his disposal.
Crucially, Bartle opened, and had soon sneered Hancock early on for 1 (who last year scored 143 no).
With one that kept low Willmott accounted for Jason Harvey for 6 (98 last year) with a ball that held its line to the satisfaction of the umpire. Hansen then played his part by tempting Bailey (50 n.o. last year) into a loose cut which produced a fine edge to Swann.
Swann took another good catch and made a stumping.
McMullan threatened on more than one occasion to throw down the stumps and in doing so finally tempted one Langley batsman into an injudicious overthrow. Leicester backing up did the necessary tidying and sent their dangerous number 6 back home The “coupe de grace” saw Henry Holden then came on to mop up the tail.
Langley 71 all out
All round it was a great team performance in the field with Henry Holden and Hamish Penman, in particular, making fine contributions. In reply LNZCC knocked off the runs with few problems. Harold Harvey for Langley bowled 6 overs, 6 maidens and accounted for McMullan! Thanks to all those who made the trip up and contributed to this excellent LNZCC victory.
