Broadhalfpenny Brigands - Sunday 19th September 2004
LNZCC had a comfortable win over Broadhalfpenny Brigands in a
short declaration match starting at 1pm with 20 overs from 5pm. The game might
have been close except that Burge failed to take any notice of the Brigands
competitive declaration.
LNZCC took to the field first and found wickets hard to come by on a damp pitch
until McIntyre dived forward off Gale and had a damaged finger to show for his
catch. Skipper Holden continued to play chess with his troops moving the field
at every opportunity and bowling almost everyone in the team except Burge,
causing much protest to which Holden replied, "I have seen you bowl!". Brigands
continued to bat well and declared 160 for 5.
Together with good innings from McIntyre and Tippen, Burge dominated the game by
smashing a number of sixes in his 106 from 57 balls which sent one of the
Brigand players from the field to move his Merc. Sadly for Burge the six of the
day went to the opposition where a car was dented in the pub car park across the
road. The game was played in good spirits and we all enjoyed a drink in the pub
after the game.
Thanks to Chris King for umpiring and Caroline Green for scoring.
