The Diplomatic Service - Saturday, May 25th, 2002 The Diplomatic Service is a new fixture for LNZCC and we agreed on a 45 limited overs match. They won the toss and put us in on a slow pitch on a blustery day which forced the batsmen to work for their runs. It was a good all round performance with six LNZCC batsmen making double figures. Dave Fanning made a solid 51 before skying one to a safe pair of hands. Darren O'Loughlin and Mike Singleton added 41 and 36. We were all out in the 43rd over for 234. We took to the field and in their first game of the season the Service promptly gave Philip Bartle (4-13) two wickets in his first over. They never recovered and were all out for 87 in the 34th over. In a top debut for LNZCC Richard Potter also took 4-13 and took a stunning catch in gully off Bartle. Richard Holden chipped in a very useful 1-14 off 7 overs. The innings was aptly ended by our esteemed chairman taking a wicket with his first ball. A comprehensive win.
