Chenies and Latimer - Sunday, 13th May 2001

A lovely summers day with temperatures in the 20's saw LNZ lose the toss and being inserted into bat. John Tierney and Darren O'Loughlin found little perils in either the pitch or the Chenies bowler and put on 120 for the first wicket. Lockie seeing it like a cannonball finally going for 83 in quick time. A middle order collapse saw us at 190/6 followed by a late innings flourish allowing LNZ to declare at 236/6 off 44 overs.

This left LNZ a good 45 to 50 overs to prise out the opposition. Sean and Ryan took the new ball but Chenies got off to a handy start, we finally bagged our first wicket just before tea. Wickets fell fairly regularly after that with Mur, Sean who the Chenies batsmen referred to as "The Quick Guy" and Ryan all taking a couple each but their Aussie import scored a ton aided by three spilled catches, a John McMullan long hop finally accounted for him being caught on the boundary.

The final ten overs saw us requiring 3 wickets (Chenies only had 10 batsmen), we managed to get one of them but not the other two, a couple of close LBWs going against us, if only Marty had been on duty.

The result came down to the old maxim about catches winning matches. But still a good fixture on a decent pitch against good guys who had their own bar, so can't complain too much.
